Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will the First Nations and Indigenous Communities see my data at anytime?

Although Pehta LP is entirely owned by First Nations, we have strict protocols ensuring that NO Indigenous community or member can access client data through our systems, except where explicitly outlined in our User Agreement. If a Nation or community needs to review your data or impact information, you would need to share your Pehta Statement with them outside of the Pehta LP platform or systems. This data belongs to you, not Pehta.

2. Who owns the data?

You retain full ownership of your data. If you decide to delete your data from the Pehta Portal, you have complete control over the process. To remove your raw data from our servers, you can submit a request through the messaging channel in the Pehta Portal, and we will delete the specified granular data. We only retain data where permitted under our User Agreement.

3. Who has access to the data?

Access to your data is highly restricted. Only you, as the data submitter, and Pehta's internal team responsible for processing and generating Pehta Statements, can access your data. Pehta maintains strict security and confidentiality standards throughout the data handling process.

4. What security functions do the systems have?

Pehta employs a third-party application, Nisto, which integrates robust security measures such as end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and continuous monitoring to safeguard your data. These features are designed to protect against unauthorized access and ensure secure data processing and storage. For more information, please refer to Nisto’s technology and security page at https://www.nisto.io/technology-security.

5. What are the benefits of using Pehta reporting?

Pehta is the leader in Indigenous Benefit Reporting, owned by First Nations, and offers unmatched credibility, auditability, and authenticity through its deeply integrated principles and processes. Unlike other systems that may use secondary or manipulated data, Pehta exclusively utilizes information from primary sources like ERP, accounting, and payroll systems. This approach minimizes inaccuracies and biases, ensuring that the data represents real-world impacts rather than projections or corporate spin. Pehta provides precise and unfiltered statements, offering a true and reliable reflection of your organization’s impact.

6. What does Pehta mean?

Pehta means “to listen or to hear” in Cree, symbolizing a commitment to accuracy and respect in your organization’s reporting. A Pehta Statement goes beyond a simple declaration; it is a clear reflection of the opportunities and benefits you create within Indigenous communities.

7. What do you mean by Auditable?

To ensure Pehta Statements are fully auditable, Pehta LP follows two key steps:

  1. User Agreement Compliance: The User Agreement requires customers to confirm that the data uploaded into the Nisto Portal is an accurate, unaltered, and complete accounting of project-related transactions directly from their accounting system. Additionally, it specifies that this information can be audited by the customer’s client.

  2. SOC-2 Certification: The Pehta platform, powered by Nisto technology, holds a SOC-2 Type 1 certification. This certification ensures that Pehta meets stringent standards in Confidentiality, Availability, Process Integrity, Privacy, and Security.
